I have been researching the Archive at Sunny Bank Mills in Farsley, Leeds for many years. This unique collection brings together fabric samples, pattern books and correspondence from the Mill’s rich history of textile production.
Fragments: An Archive responds to the Mill’s forgotten corners and unseen history, cataloguing imagery from found objects in the Finishing Room and the collection of fabric samples and carbon copy books housed in the archive.
Each piece has been created using woollen fabrics and machine embroidery, creating a collection of stitched text fragments, each telling part of the story of the fabrics produced by Edwin Woodhouse & Co. and WC Gaunt. This collection of work was exhibited in the now demolished Finishing Room as part of the exhibition Weave//Fragments in 2017.
