Girls Who Eat Their Feelings

In 2017, I made the decision to record everything I ate and drank, inspired by the work of Georges Perec in his book Species of Spaces and Other Pieces. Alongside the food and drink, I made a note of my mental and physical health. Girls Who Eat Their Feelings brings together this collection of works inspired by my relationship with food and mental health. The 2018 exhibition showcased my research, textile drawings and objects responding to my personal struggle with emotional overeating.

The exhibition was inspired by my work with Libraries on their Body Image and Mind project which explored the issue of body image and the impact that has on people’s self-confidence, mental health and wellbeing. Body Image and Mind was a creative arts, health and wellbeing project led by Leeds Library Service.  It was part of the pioneering new Engaging Libraries programme supported by the Wellcome and Carnegie UK Trust.
