Leeds Playhouse

Since 2013 I have been working with Leeds Playhouse as part of their creative engagement programmes. I regularly teach courses as part of their Heydays programme, the largest and longest-running arts programme for older people in UK theatre. Around 300 older people attend each week to take part in everything from drama and dance to sculpture and creative writing.Heydays is a vibrant, creative community where skills are developed and stories are shared.

My courses help people to develop a range of textile skills from hand embroidery to felt making and so much more. At the end of term, participants have created a unique piece of textile art which they can exhibit with pride at the celebration events.

In 2019, I worked with the Playhouse on It’s For You a community project working with older LGBTQ+ celebrating pride and beyond. In a local cafe, we ran a series of creative workshops to express our identity. At Leeds Pride, we created rosettes celebrating pride.
