This work is an ongoing project, inspired by the harbour and fishing history in Scarborough. Combining digital embroidery, hand embroidery and found objects this collection takes inspiration from photographs on our daily walks.
Warping is a method of moving a sailing vessel, typically against the wind or current, after running aground, or out from a dead calm, by hauling on a line attached to a kedge anchor, a sea anchor, or a fixed object, such as a bollard or tree.
This starting point led me to explore different techniques using found and hand made ropes and knots. Using fishing net weights and handmade metal findings to create linked pieces of work featuring embroidered ropes and chains.
This work was chosen as the featured piece for the 2023 Warped exhibition for Prism Textiles.
