Archive follows on from the research Hayley began during Deconstruct/Reconstruct, as the 1930s sofa was deconstructed it revealed a collection of objects with an untold history and after the death of her grandmother she discovered links with her childhood memories.
Narrative plays an important part in Hayley’s practice and the objects found within the sofa reminded her of the ephemera we collect throughout our lives…
“Through my research for Deconstruct/Reconstruct I have begun to explore personal memories and the objects that people collect, from the sideboard drawer that contains mementos from holidays and scraps of paper to the old photograph albums on the bookcase.”
Using digital embroidery, hand stitch and found objects, Archive captures memories from Hayley’s childhood. From the dressing table drawers in her grandmother’s bedroom to the linen drawers in the spare room.
