Inspiring Women

Wednesday 8 March is International Women’s Day and I wanted to share some the amazing women I’ve worked with in the last 12 months. I’ve been working with Stitched-up-theatre as part of The Unravelling Fantasia of Miss H. an opera about the life of Mary Frances Heaton. You can read more about the project in my previous post.

As well as working alongside Red Gray and Pamela Schermann from Stitched-up-theatre I’ve worked with women across Yorkshire as part of the project. I’ve run workshops with Well Women Wakefield, Dream Time Creative, Changing Lives Doncaster, Mother Hookers Doncaster, Leeds Playhouse, Left Bank Leeds, Space2 Leeds, The Piece Hall, Artworks and Healthy Minds Calderdale. The workshops were so inspiring, asking women to share stories and create a piece of embroidery about what it means to be a woman.

The for Women of banners are now complete and I’ll be sharing pictures of the finished pieces soon. I’m also hoping to exhibit them across Yorkshire. It was wonderful to bring the work from each location together and share people’s creativity.

I’ve also been doing more work with Artlink West Yorkshire, working alongside Sylvie, Hayley and Wendy who make Artlink such a great place to work. I’ve worked with other creative practitioners Ellie Tillotson and Kim Glassby on projects that bring art, movement and drama to different day centres across Leeds. I have such a good time at our workshops and regular groups like Studio 3, it also pushes me to try new things.

I also get to share the work of Prism Textiles alongside the brilliant Kim Winter and Maria Walker in our social media team. We have been working hard to promote the work of our members and the upcoming exhibition opening in April. It’s great to share our skills and experience and support each other when our workloads are too demanding.

I want to say a big thank you to all the women I’ve worked with during my career, you make my job so wonderful xx
